National Peace Officer Week is an annual event that takes place May 12th through May 18th that allows people across the country to show their support for our law enforcement agencies and the officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. The week is scheduled with daily events such as the K-9 memorial service, annual candlelit vigil, pipe bands, the Police Survivors Conference and more.

National Peace Officer Week began with a proclamation signed by President John F. Kennedy in 1962. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) and Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) along with the Grand Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police sponsor this event every year so that attendees, law enforcement and the families of those remembered can experience a week full of events, support and honor. Not only is it an opportunity for families of those lost to meet and connect with each other through their experiences, but also officers of various agencies around the country and even world to meet and develop professional connections to make the world a safer place.

Tennessee began breaking ground for a new Multi-Agency Law Enforcement Training Academy at Cockrill Bend in September of last year valued at $415 million.

This facility was conceptualized to enhance the training of all Tennessee law enforcement officers and honor those 742 officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty in our home state.

We at Solaren Risk Management work with a number of law enforcement agencies in this state and beyond and stand with our staff in remembrance of all officers lost so that those remaining do not stand alone. For those of you who would like to donate to the NLEOMF, please go to National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (nleomf.org).
