Solaren and Gibson Gives are Saving Lives One Narcan at a Time
Thanks to the efforts of Solaren Risk Management CEO Jack Byrd and the non-profit Gibson Gives, some 50 bars in downtown Nashville are receiving lifesaving Narcan kits to combat the opioid crisis in America.
Placed right next to each bar’s AEDs, these kits will be easily accessible so that bar and security staff can aid anyone overdosing on the premises.
These kits are the solution to the age-old problem of law enforcement and other professionals not being able to be everywhere at once. These kits include instructional videos so that practically anyone can use them to save a life in seconds. The opioid crisis has been on the rise for a while now and it is continuing to rear its ugly head in Nashville. EMS has responded to over 1,300 calls for opioid overdoses in just the first quarter of 2023 according to the Metro Public Health Department.
Jack Byrd is quoted saying…
“I am really excited about it. It’s a tool we did not have before; we were put in situations where we had to watch and wait, but now we have the opportunity to impact lives. We have the chance to help and intervene when people are experiencing an overdose.”
This is the motivation behind the legislature allowing Narcan to be an over-the-counter drug as overdose deaths have hit record highs in the U.S. Solaren and TEMPO, the program Training and Empowering Musicians to Prevent Overdoses started by Gibson, are trying to turn the tide in this battle and save as many lives as are affected by opioid addiction.
