Since 1998, the city of Nashville has hosted the annual Rock and Roll Marathon benefitting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This year, for the first time, the city partnered with a contract security company to provide traffic control services for a large portion of the marathon route. Solaren Risk Management was awarded the contract to provide these services. Staffing the largest annual single-day event in Nashville was a daunting task, but the Solaren Team was up to the challenge. In the weeks leading up to the marathon, the Solaren Team developed the staffing model, event action plans and reviewed logistical needs necessary for a successful event.

To add to the challenge, just weeks before the event, the company providing the bulk of the traffic control equipment declined to provide services and the Solaren Team stepped up to provide traffic control equipment to cover the South and North Branches of the marathon, along with access lane cones in the East Branch. This was the largest equipment deployment Solaren had been involved with, but once again the team pulled together and rose to the challenge. Our teams deployed over 350 barricades and more than 1,200 traffic cones over the course of the route.

On November 20, approximately 250 Solaren employees worked long hours to ensure a successful marathon. The Solaren leadership team began their day at 3:00am on race day to set up for a 4:00am roll call for over 200 officers. Donuts, meals and beverages were provided as a gesture of appreciation of our hard-working employees. Officers braved the cold weather, while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor to ensure a safe route for the marathon participants.

Solaren Risk Management looks forward to being a partner in 2022 when the Rock and Roll Marathon returns to its normal event schedule on April 23rd.
